The publication that anchored the VR boom

In 2015, betting on virtual reality was a fast way to get laughed out of the room. I spent the next two years helping build the one the whole industry walked into.

UploadVR became far more than a publication, and I led product across all of it. We built a developer academy, coworking spaces, and the events where the people actually making spatial computing could find each other. We didn't just cover the industry. We gave it a place to stand.

The product I led fueled the rounds and the reach — $6 million raised across them, 200 million people reached. Building it also taught me how completely a publication can shape what an entire field believes. I've been chewing on that one ever since.
